Home>>Alpine Fat Skis and Alpine Touring (AT) Skis
Considerations for selecting alpine touring (AT) skis:
  • Skis:  Consider the lightest ski possible if you intend to use your alpine touring skis primarily for Rondo [ski mountaineering] competitions.  Each additional ounce becomes a significant factor on long sustained climbs or 24 hour racing.
  • Poles: Consider adjustable poles to provide maximum flexibility and adaptability to environmental conditions...again look closely and compare weight.
  • Boots: Again look for the lightest boot with the idea that you must be comfortable both going downhill as well as climbing.

Bottom Line: Carefully examine how you will use your alpine equipment throughout the year and select skis, boots and bindings that match your level of competition.  As an alternative to alpine skis, you can use many models of telemark skis for your AT set-up.
